Genexis supplies ONT equipment and fibre gateways for the customer end of fibre-optic networks. The products support GPON and XGS-PON and are designed for large-scale roll-out by telecoms operators. Zero-touch provisioning reduces the installation time per connection without the need for local technical expertise on the end customer’s part.
ONT equipment for GPON and XGS-PON
An ONT (Optical Network Terminal) terminates the fibre-optic connection at the customer’s premises and converts the optical signal to Ethernet. Genexis supplies ONT devices for residential and business use. GPON offers 2.5 Gbit/s downstream per PON port; XGS-PON (10 Gigabit Symmetric PON) delivers 10 Gbit/s symmetrically per port.
Genexis supplies hardware for both generations. Operators migrating from GPON to XGS-PON do so without replacing the passive fibre-optic infrastructure; the active equipment at both ends is replaced, whilst the fibres in the ground remain unchanged.
Fibre gateways and remote management
As well as standalone ONT devices, Genexis supplies combined gateways with integrated Wi-Fi, router functionality and multiple Ethernet ports. Remote management is carried out via TR-069, the standard protocol for remote provisioning in telecoms networks. Firmware updates, configuration changes and diagnostics are carried out via the operator’s management platform.
When is Genexis a good fit?
Genexis is relevant for operators rolling out fibre-optic networks in residential and business environments on a large scale. The equipment is designed for mass deployment: uniform configuration, zero-touch provisioning and easy installation by technicians. The shorter the installation time per connection, the lower the roll-out costs per customer.
