Our vendor RTBrick
RTBrick supplies routing software that runs as a containerised stack on white-box hardware featuring Broadcom Jericho silicon. FullStack BNG performs broadband gateway functions in software; FullStack IP Edge offers carrier-grade BGP routing. Distri X distributes RTBrick and combines the software with compatible hardware.
FullStack BNG: software-based broadband gateway
BNG (Broadband Network Gateway) is the network element that terminates, authenticates and applies policies to subscribers’ broadband connections. RTBrick FullStack BNG performs these functions as software running on white-box hardware.
FullStack BNG supports PPPoE and IPoE as dial-up methods, the standard protocols for PON and DSL networks. Authentication is carried out via RADIUS. Scaling to accommodate more subscribers is achieved by adding additional hardware nodes to the cluster, rather than by replacing a monolithic chassis.
Cloud-native architecture on white-box hardware
RTBricks software runs as microservices on Linux with ASIC offload via the underlying Broadcom silicon. Management and monitoring are carried out via gNMI and YANG data models, the modern standards for network automation.
Upgrades and rollbacks are carried out using container management tools. This makes software migrations less disruptive than with monolithic NOS platforms.
When is RTBrick a good fit?
RTBrick is relevant for telecoms operators and ISPs wishing to run BNG functions on open hardware rather than proprietary chassis, and for operators looking to modernise their IP edge with cloud-native routing software. The UFiSpace S9280 is a widely used hardware platform in combination with RTBrick.
Our partnership with RTBrick
Distri X distributes RTBrick and integrates the software with Edgecore and UFiSpace hardware. We provide support with pre-sales and architectural design for BNG and IP edge deployments. Would you like to know how RTBrick works in your network? We’re happy to help you find a solution.
