Our vendor Smartoptics
Smartoptics supplies compact DWDM equipment for optical transmission over dark fibre. The DCP (Dense Coherent Platform) is an open line system compatible with coherent pluggables from multiple vendors. Distri X distributes Smartoptics products and provides support with link budget calculations and the design of the optical transport layer.
DCP: open-line system for the metro and data centres
DWDM (Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing) transmits multiple signals, each at its own wavelength, over a single fibre. Each wavelength functions as an independent channel; the total capacity is the sum of all the channels.
The Smartoptics DCP platform supports DWDM channels on a 50 GHz grid (ITU-T standard) and offers automatic span equalisation. Coherent pluggables in QSFP-DD and OSFP form factors for 100G and 400G are available and, in many cases, are also compatible with open line systems from other vendors.
Easy deployment and scalability
Smartoptics equipment is designed so that no in-depth optical expertise is required. Automatic span equalisation adjusts the gain across the DWDM channels without the need for manual calibration. Capacity is expanded by adding wavelengths to an existing line infrastructure.
When is Smartoptics a good fit?
Smartoptics is suitable for organisations that own or lease dark fibre and wish to add capacity in a scalable manner, and for data centre operators seeking to connect multiple sites with high capacity. The compact 1U form factor and simple commissioning make it suitable for environments with limited on-site management.
Our partnership with Smartoptics
Distri X distributes Smartoptics and provides support with the design of the optical transport layer. We calculate link budgets and advise on the choice of wavelengths. Would you like to know if Smartoptics is suitable for your fibre-optic route? We’re happy to help you find a solution.
