Scale Computing supplies HC3, a hyper-converged platform that combines compute, storage and network virtualisation on KVM. An HC3 cluster requires at least two nodes; storage is mirrored without the need for external storage hardware. Fleet Manager centrally manages multiple sites. Distri X distributes Scale Computing products and provides support with sizing and migration.
HC3: hyper-converged platform for small sites
HC3 (HyperCore 3) is built on KVM as a hypervisor and uses its own distributed storage system. Nodes are connected to the network, automatically discover one another and form a cluster without the need for manual configuration of storage controllers. A two-node cluster offers high availability: if one node fails, the other remains operational.
The focus on simplicity means that HC3 can be deployed at sites without local IT expertise. The installation of a new cluster is designed to be carried out by non-specialist technicians.
Fleet Manager: centralised management of multiple sites
Scale Computing Fleet Manager manages dozens or hundreds of HC3 clusters from a single interface. Firmware updates, configuration changes and VM migrations are rolled out centrally.
This is particularly relevant for organisations with many branches, such as retailers, logistics companies or industrial environments. Centralised manageability without local IT expertise at each branch is a direct operational requirement for that use case.
When is Scale Computing a good fit?
Scale Computing is a viable alternative to VMware for edge and remote site deployments, and for organisations wishing to manage multiple small sites in a standardised manner. Following Broadcom’s changes to VMware’s licensing in 2023, HC3 is a logical choice for environments where VMware costs are no longer proportionate to scale.
