Our vendor IP Infusion
IP Infusion supplies OcNOS, a carrier-grade network operating system for white-box switches and routers. OcNOS supports BGP, OSPF, ISIS, MPLS and EVPN, and runs on hardware from Edgecore, UFiSpace and other manufacturers. Distri X distributes IP Infusion and combines the software with compatible hardware.
OcNOS: carrier-grade network operating system for open networking hardware
OcNOS (Open Compute Network Operating System) is IP Infusion’s network operating system. It runs on white-box switches featuring Broadcom, Marvell and Intel chips and supports ASIC offload, meaning that routing and switching logic is handled in hardware.
EVPN-MPLS (Ethernet VPN over MPLS) is a widely used architecture for Layer 2 extension over Layer 3 networks in data centre and carrier environments. OcNOS provides full support for this, including EVPN VPWS and EVPN VPLS for point-to-point and multipoint Layer 2 services.
ZebOS and embedded routing
ZebOS is the routing framework on which OcNOS is built. It is also used independently as an embedded routing stack in third-party equipment. Manufacturers wishing to integrate carrier-grade routing protocols into their own hardware use ZebOS as the underlying software.
The separation of hardware and NOS means that a hardware upgrade does not require an NOS migration, and vice versa. OcNOS updates can be carried out without replacing any physical hardware.
When is IP Infusion a good fit?
OcNOS is relevant for operators and service providers who wish to combine carrier-grade routing functions with the flexibility of open networking hardware. Metro aggregation, data centre interconnects and backbone segments are typical environments. When combined with UFiSpace hardware, it provides a fully vendor-independent platform.
